Genital warts are extremely increasingly common and are caused by the human papilloma virus; they can affect both men and women and can be caught through skin to skin contact and sexual activity. They cause cauliflower-like growths, usually around the genital areas, however they can appear in and around the mouth if oral sex has occurred.
Genital warts can be treated but there is no cure; warts often reappear at a later time.
Genital warts don’t cause cancer. There are many different types of the human papilloma virus; types 6 and 11 are the cause visible genital warts; A vaccine has been developed which protects people against certain strains of HPV.
